Winning Solution: Delft Hackathon Team

A digital 'Multi Me' identity for trustful participation in society

Society lacks sufficient digital identity means for trustful participation in the digital social and economic spaces. The Dutch Central Bank, Authority for Financial Markets and Delft University of Technology teamed up in one team to build a trustworthy digital means for people to truly participate in society, both social and professional.

This identity means solutions starts with the citizens, allowing them to tell each other ‘you are you’ in a social environment, to then build up to more authorative environments like the government: they can tell you that I am ‘me’. Through this process you build a very strong reputation on your ID which can be used in all facts of life.

Social interactions are what drives trust in day to day physical business, the solution brings this almost sub-conscious intuitive concept to the digital ecosystem. As a citizen should be entitled to separate their private from their professional life, the solution supports a ‘multi me’ concept.

Trust is created through immutable claims on the blockchain, verifiable by third parties. The concept allows parties to build their own implementation of trust algorithms. Thereby enabling the receiving party to decide when the level of trust is substantial enough. A collection of claims that can be used in the context of the citizens journey. This enables this contextual ID to be decided upon by the context owner.

Government wants to adhere to the principles of EIDAS, when accepting proven claims. The solution created allows the ID environment for multiple approaches to reach the required level of trust e.g EIDAS substantial, meaning that a broader group of society has participation in the digital environment within reach.

The identity solution relies on the concept of QR codes, closely relating to the current user experience. Blockchain is used for transaction and interaction logging.
